Spammed

I had the most bizarre voice mail message yesterday. A short while ago, I went on a few dates with a guy, who will remain unnamed (to protect the guilty?). This guy was TOTALLY wrong for me, and I knew this from the very start. The guy did not own an alarm clock, if that gives you an indication of his lifestyle (DJ, party promoter, you know the type).

I will spare you the gory details, but needless to say, it was soon apparent that things would not be continuing with this guy, and I basically told him never to call me again.

So, to my surprise, I had a voicemail, from a girl, saying:

"Hi Laura, I'm calling on behalf of [insert creep's guy's name here] to invite you to a party tomorrow night. It will be really great, lots of fun, and I'll be putting you on the guest list. We'll look forward to seeing you there"

This did not impress me. Did he just hand over his cell phone to some lackey and say "call everyone on here?" Or worse, did he transfer me from the "dating" to the "harass her with promotional material" list? Some people!

In more serious news, today I finished the practical final for this unit of my programme (Physiotherapy). It was in OSCE format (I can't remember what that stands for, but it's a timed test where you have 5 minutes at each station to complete a clinical skill on a simulated patient in front of an examiner) and although I felt like I was going to throw up the entire time, I think I did pretty well.

I did make a couple of dumb mistakes- One automatically loses a mark if one forgets to introduce themselves to the patient as a physiotherapy student...I think I forgot to introduce myself to the mannequin that we were supposed to perform tracheal suctioning on. Pretty stupid eh? If it was a real person, as if I would just ignore them and plunge a tube down their throat.

But, no matter how I did, there's always that (slightly Machiavellian) consolation that I know I didn't do as badly as some people. One of the girls in my class (who shall remain unnamed, although if you're a regular reader you know who she is) ended up in tears. The station was to transfer a (simulated) patient who had a stroke and was paralyzed on one side from lying to sitting in a wheelchair. She sat the person up, left them alone, went to get the wheelchair from across the room, and the person went sprawling over on the floor! Needless to say she didn't pass that station.

Ah well, like they tell us, it's better to do that on a practice patient than in real life!

Tomorrow is the written portion of the exam, and I have to tell you, I'm finding it very difficult to concentrate. Hopefully this apple martini I have beside me at my desk will get my neurons firing. Unfortunately, the neurological component of the material I'm supposed to be learning tells me otherwise.

Hey Hun

I am really glad to hear that the practical part went well. I hope that me playing guinea pig helped a little. Your written will go well, I am sure.

Ok, you got voicemail spam? I can't believe I encouraged you to go out with this guy again. Guh. Sorry 'bout that.

Good luck today! Call me tonight on my cell
